Join us at the Bassett Gallery on October 11th for an engaging exhibition by South Carolina artist Kirkland Smith. Over the past decade, Smith has been creating contemporary assemblages from everyday disposable materials.
Her unique art highlights the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling, challenging viewers to reconsider their consumer habits. Smith believes that “what we throw away says a lot about who we are, but what we choose to cherish and protect says even more.”
A native of Mt. Pleasant, Kirkland Smith earned her B.A. in Studio Art from the University of South Carolina and furthered her studies in classical painting and drawing at Studio Escalier in France. She currently resides in South Carolina with her husband, James, and their four children. This exhibition promises to be a thought-provoking and inspiring experience that you won’t want to miss.
